TEACHING
While SCBS is not a teaching
or degree-granting unit of the university, it works with departments
and the School of Humanities and Sciences to strengthen the university's
resources for education in Buddhism and Asian cultures.
SCBS Reading Groups. Each year the center sponsors informal
student-faculty groups for the study of Asian religious texts
or topics, for which academic credit can be arranged.
SCBS Faculty-Student Seminars. The center sponsors an annual one-week
intensive seminar on a topic in Buddhist studies, offered by
an invited scholar, for which academic credit can be arranged.
Curriculum Support Fund. The center administers a small discretionary
fund to assist departments in maintaining and supplementing their
curriculum, through replacement of faculty on leave, visiting
or other temporary appointments, special courses, and the like.
SCBS hopes to expand this fund to a level sufficient to make
new permanent faculty appointments.
Student Support Fund. The center supplements departmental student
support with small grants for book or computer purchases, travel,
and other special expenses. SCBS hopes to expand this fund to
provide additional full fellowships for students specializing
in Asian religions.
