Professor Morse will lead an in-depth, hands-on workshop in identifying and understanding the techniques of Japanese Buddhist sculpture from the Kamakura period.

This event coincides with the opening of the exhibition Return to the Valley: Highlights from the Lee Institute Permanent Collection. Curated by Dr. Morse, the first rotation includes the finest Buddhist sculptures and hanging scroll paintings from the Lee Institute collection, including several superb pieces from the Kamakura and Nanbokuchô periods.

This workshop is limited to 10 participants. Graduate students from Stanford and UC/Berkeley in Japanese art history and Buddhist studies in particular are encouraged to take advantage of this special opportunity to participate in a close-up examination and discussion of the top pieces of Buddhist art from the Lee Institute Collection.
